We live in NW GA and like being in charge of our own lives.
Bought 6 (they, and my husband, told me at least 2 wouldn't survive) Rhode Island Red chick layers from TSC and brought them home - surprise, they all survived; I have a grow room (partially) 3' down below ground surface, complete with auto heat and air, grow lights on 14 to 16 hours a day, with plants expelling additional oxygen - and put the chicks in a brooder (along with the heat mat I use for my seedlings under it and a 150W red light over it, covered with chicken wire on the top). ALL of my chicks survived quite well and growing at a phenomenal rate. We just finished their 6.6. x 9.8 run and made an attached 4x6x6 coop which the chicks (who are 3+ weeks old) are about to be transferred to.
Reading and learning as we go, but the girls seem to be thriving and totally happy.
