Hi There. I've been reading through this site for over a year now and have gained so much helpful information.

We have three laying hens that I got last sumer and we're raising four new girls to add to the flock. We are true "Backyard" chicken keepers and live in the suburbs of Denver.

Of our four new pullets…one has turned out to be a cockerel! He's a Light Brahma and is 16 weeks old. Being that we're city dwellers we are not allowed to have a rooster. I would really like to find him a new home before I introduce the three other girls to the same coop as my hens. Any suggestions or ideas on where I should post?

Thanks so much for all your information and help over the last year!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! NorthFlChick gave you some good suggestions, you might also check with your local 4-H clubs etc if anyone wants a project bird, and post in places like Craigslist, feed store bulletin board etc if someone is looking for a flock rooster.

Thanks for the friendly welcomes and suggestions. I've made a few phone calls already, including 4-H, and am keeping my fingers crossed. I just want to keep this guy out of a stew pot...he's just too good lookin'! I also found a chicken swap happening in my area next weekend.

Thank again!

I'm glad you could join BYC. I'm sorry to hear that one of your four "hens" turned out to be a cockerel.

Unfortunately, that seems to happen a lot to new backyard chicken owners. He's a handsome rooster! I'm sure someone will want him. I'd definitely post at the links Yorkshire Coop left you with. This time of year, many 4-Hers may be looking for birds to show later in the year and may want him.

I hope you enjoy your birds and BYC! Welcome to our flock.
