Newest coop creation

Really nice coop! I'm curious about the use of the pennies, though. Is there a chance of galvanic corrosion causing a problem a few years down the road?

Hmmmm.

After some Googling on galvanic corrosion it seems that there may be problems with this down the road. I would have ever thought that this would be a problem. Guess I should have paid more attention in science class:(

So from what I have read it seems that yes the copper can start to deteriorate the hardware cloth. I am thinking it could take a number of years though before problems occur?

Thanks for the heads up Intheswamp.

Well I like the penny idea too because those washers can sure add expense. But even a nickel would be cheaper than most washers nowadays. I just wish I had a drill press or good way to drill some pocket change out.

I was so in love w/ your coop I showed DH as soon as he got home from work... He loved it too. BUT worried you would b e in the clinker if Uncle Sam saw you defaced govn't property. My idea is that while your locked up I will take care of your coop...sound good????

Not science class...self-study for amateur radio license.

About the only metal that can go between two dissimilar metals is stainless and (as for as I know) the precious metals. Now if you were to use some Double Eagles to hold your hardware cloth on....

The application of the pennies isn't really a good one as for as environmental issues go. I'm afraid moisture and chicken poop will accelerate the problem. In a dry location the problem probably wouldn't be as severe. I've dealt with this type of corrosion a couple of times but have no idea/recollection of the time involved for it to take place. One thing's for certain...you've got one heck of a nice experiment in front of you.
