Nope. Only 3 of the 16 were hens! So disappointing. Except, now I get to hatch more eggs. lolHello and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
Only 3 or of 16 were cockerels?! Those are amazing odds in your favor.
I can't believe you only got 3 pullets! Welcome here I got my first flock 2 years ago too. I've learned lots from this group. How cool you got birds with your coop!.Hi, I got my chickens in 2020, the coop I bought from a neighbor came with 5 older Golden Comets who have all passed. We have 3 Barred Rocks, 3 Azurs, 2 White Laced Whyendots who are about 2 years old. And this spring we hatched 16 chickens in hopes of getting an Ameraucana rooster. It turned out that the Ameraucannas were Eater Eggers. There were a bunch of other breeds in the 16 eggs that hatched, all but 3 of the chicks that hatched were roosters! We got 1 Welsummer hen, and 2 mixes with a polish mother and the rooster was half Cochen and half Dorking. Now I have to decide which rooster to keep and keep looking for a well bread blue egg layer.
I'm interested in breeding for egg color and I'm a dog trainer and I can train chickens if anyone wants to learn. I use a clicker to mark the behavior I want. It turns out that dog trainers go to "chicken camp" to practice their techniques for better dog training.
