Hi, all. I signed up here some time ago, but since we live in a city that doesn't allow chickens, I hadn't gotten any. As just a wanna-be chicken owner, I felt a little weird about being here and didn't stick around.
In an act of civil disobedience and in a quest for good eggs, we're raising 8 hens. Five of our beautiful ladies are black sex-linked pullets and three are red sex-linked pullets, all from Tractor Supply Center's Chick Days this past Spring.
This has been such a fun adventure, even with the possibility of getting "busted" for illegal birds. I'm not a lawbreaker by nature, but in a city surrounded by some of the richest agricultural land in the world, it made no sense to me that folks couldn't have some backyard hens.
We have a contingency plan if we're forced to get rid of our girls--a family in a rural area who will adopt them. But so far, so good. No eggs yet, but we figure it can't be too long.
Good to be here, good to be a chicken owner, at last.
