I second @N F C's question about the coop. They should be in it now! They need 4 sq ft of floor space, 1 linear foot of roost and as close to 1 sq ft of permanently open ventilation in the coop along with 1 nest box per 4-5 females. The run should offer 12-15 sq ft of space and ideally will have a solid roof on it to maximize their outdoor time.

I've been researching for years but finally got 8 chicks yesterday (~3 week olds, 4 Rhode Island Reds and 4 Amerauanas)

Married 16 years and we have twin 13 year old daughters who both have autism and ADHD. I'm a SAHM due to their needs. My husband works in IT but he is also excited about the chickens and he's the one that taught me everything I know about gardening. We have an 8 year old Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix dog named Leela. She has a food-related seizure disorder and one of the safe "human" foods she can have is eggs and she LOVES them so, once we teach her that chickens are friends, she'll love them. We also have 2 cats. A 4 year old deaf boy named Moose who lives in my husband's office (detached building on our property because he works remotely) and a 2 year old boy named Oscar. Both cats actually have the same mom and dad and were both former strays that walked into our home randomly. My life is pretty chaotic and I'm currently trying to make myself better in lots of ways. Chickens will help.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I actually joined about 8 years ago when I was first thinking about getting chickens but I made a new account cuz of access issues now that I finally have chickens LOL

Welcome from a fellow Buckeye! What part of OH? I reside close to Hopkins Airport. Anyways, the site is filled with very knowledgeable chicken moms/dads, so don't be afraid to ask any questions!

So the Chicken Mansion is 12'x6' with a raised coop that will be 3'x6' with 4 nesting boxes.

Its partially enclosed but the side facing our house is totally open except for the coop portion.
