I recently noticed today that my chicken's eggs where hacked. I don't know how long until I can move the chicks and if their mom can go with there are some unhatched eggs still and she is till laying on them. What should I do?

Check the remaining eggs to see if there is any sign of hatching; look for pip marks and hold the eggs to your ear. Listen for chirping or thumping sounds. If the eggs have no signs of hatching I would move hen and chicks to a safe place providing that the chicks are dried and running around. You could also candle the remaining eggs to see if they are viable. Good luck.

Congratulations on your new arrivals. You can keep the chicks with mom while she is still sitting. Fortunately hens do not nurse, so the hatchlings can stay with you and you can put out a shallow bowl of water and some chick starter for them. If she doesn't show them how - tap your finger on the bowls so they will try them out. That is what the mother would do. If she hatches the rest fine, if not, you can candle to see if the leftover ones are viable. If so you can put them in an incubator , and let mama care for the ones she has now.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congratulations on your new chicks :celebrate I've had my first ever broody this year and it's been a wonderful experience with her. It's amazing how they know just what to do and when. Great advice there for you from the above posters.

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future with your new chicks.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow
