Hi,
my first chick hatch :) I have 5/6 polish bantams hatched and the final one has pipped and i think about to zip very soon, the hatching age gap between them all will be less than 24 hours. i'm wondering how long to leave them in the incubator for? and then once in their broody box (with holey lid and a little fleecy mama hen for then to go in to get warm) how long they can be left for?

i know i'll be leaving them to their own devices over night but how long can they be safely left during the day?

thanks

You leave them in the incubator until they are dry for the most part.
And you can leave chicks alone for extended amounts of time as long as they have food, water and a safe brooder at the proper temperature.:)
EDIT: Extended amounts of time would be a work day. I do personally keep a close watch the first few days, chicks are wobbly and more accident prone.

hi , thanks, they are now all hatched although the last one needed some help.
we need to be out for about a work day length when they'll be 3 days old, should i have someone to pop in and check on them do you think?
Also this is probably a silly question but should i empty the water from the incubator now they're all hatched or do they still need humidity until tomorrow when i'll move them to the brooder box? they don't seem to be drying out too much as the humidity is quite high i think....
thanks

You can probably move them all to the brooder now, but no they don't need humidity anymore.
By day 3 they should be pretty stable on their feet so they should be fine. If you just wanted someone to check in you could.:)

Got controlled heat in the brooder box? Something like a nipple drinker that they can't turn over or drown in? They should be fine for a workday length of time.

Thanks. What temperature should I have the incubator at without humidity? I will leave them in overnight and move them to the brooder in the morning...

I would guess 90 to 95 .
I haven't ever left a completed hatch in the incubator.
But that is the first couple days temp on the warm side of my brooder.:)

thanks, i've decreased the temp to somewhere in the middle of your suggestion and removed the water for the night, hopefully by morning they will be more fluffy and less soggy ready to go into the brooder.
