Hello! Im so excited! I just hatched my very first chick today! But, there is some problems. #1 the chick is constantly peeping, is that bad? #2 I can't get it to eat or drink, is that bad? Do i start to feed it right when it hatches? I don't know. Is it normal for it to start to put its head on a towel i put in the brooder and slow closes its eyes? I tapped it and it started peeping again. Should I just wait till tomorrow to give it food? Im confused. It this supposed to happen. Any reply back would be awesome! Thanks!

Every thing sounds exactly as it should be you could feed and water it any time from hatching until three days from hatching.

Chicks can survive 2-4 days without food when they first hatch. That allows the hen to continue to sit and hatch the rest of the eggs before she needs to move and find food for the babies. I'll assume you have more chicks to hatch. You need to leave the incubator shut. Do not open it. You mess with the temp and humidity reducing the hatch rate on the rest. The chick is spent from hatching. It will rest most of the first day with brief spurts of energy. Just leave it alone for now.

Ok, thankyou! It has been resting a lot. I couldn't get it to eat or drink so, ill let it rest and try again tomorrow.
