I just finished hatching a brood of 7 chicks very late last night. This afternoon, I noticed that one of the chicks just layed on the ground and slept, even when I accidentally dropped a box and the sound scared the rest of the chicks, this chick just lifted her head and kept her eyes closed. I picked her up and she still didn't open her eyes. So I gently pried her lids open (they were like......stuck....I can't describe it...) and she blinked a few times and then started looking around her like WOW! So I put her back in the brooder and she started running around and eating and drinking. A little while later I came back to check on her, and her eyes were stuck shut again! I've had to pry them open several times now. What is wrong and is there a way to fix it?

I have used plain Neosporin on eyes that are stuck if, some gets in the eye it is ok and should clear up the problem. Good Luck and Congrats on the new babys.

You could also try a q-tip dipped in warm water to clean the area in case there is lingering gunk that will stick back together as the chick sleeps. Good luck!
