LOL! It makes me wanna have a chicken with no eyes! lol

After reading this thread I just had to share a story we have posted in our barn. It is a similar circumstance and it, and your story of your blind chicky, reminds me how important it is that we all take care of each other -- because someday it may be one of us who needs the help...

Two Horses
Just up the road from my home is a field with two horses in it.
From a distance, each looks like every other horse.
But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing.
Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind.
His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.
This alone is amazing.

If nearby and listening, you will hear the sound of a bell.
Looking around for the source of the sound,
you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field.
Attached to her halter is a small bell.
It lets her blind friend know where she is so he can follow her.

As you stand and watch these two friends,
you'll see how she is always checking on him,
and that he will listen for her bell and then
slowly walk to where she is, trusting that she
will not lead him astray. When she returns to the
shelter of the barn each evening, she stops
occasionally and looks back, making sure her
friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses,
God does not throw us away just because
we are not perfect or because we have problems
or challenges. He watches over us and even brings
others into our lives to help us when we are in need.
Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by
the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives.
Other times we are the guide horse, helping others see.

Good friends are like this:
You don't always see them,
but you know they are always there.
Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours.

Just thought I'd share

I havnt gotten around to updating that, The dog that did it has been rehomed with a nice family and the chick was thriving VERY well and was at full grown and you could not tell she was missing a wing (asides when you found her squaking on her side cuz she sunbathed on wrong side and couldnt get back up LOL!!)

But sadly just a few weeks ago neighbors dog managed to break into the pen when I wasnt around and slaughtered her another and almost my whole flock of welsh harlequins asides from one hen. Sucks majorly she and blindy was my favorites

I can't guess on the sex of the blind baby, but kudos to you for raising it so well!!!

On a side note, if it is a boy, you should not breed it to other frizzles: frizzle to frizzle breeding can cause chicks with "frazzling" which is a major genetic deformity that can cause them to suffer feather loss and other genetic problems. Better to breed him to straight feathered birds...but really, if the missing eyes is genetic, don't know if I would breed him/her at all...

I mean, just because he or she has had a good life with you doesn't mean that every bird raised from this specimen's bloodlines would be so lucky, happy or healthy.

I ended up buying a frazzle when I thought I was getting a frizzle. It's not pretty. She looks like this all the time and the other hens hate her.

Kudos to you for doing such a great job with your blind bird. He's lucky to have you.

OMG, Tiss, you know I love you, but can you blame them? Are you sure they're not just ... you know ... terrified?

Does she think they're just jealous? Try to convince her that they only hate her because they'll never be as pretty as she is.

ohemgee, that's ... ahem.

I'm sure she has a lovely personality.
