I changed to a 60w standard bulb. They seem to love it. The "special" bulb had a silver base on the globe which blocked too much heat. They are all basking comfortably now. RIP to the late hatchers and splayed legs

Glad they're doing well! I agree with your hypothesis and think it's a good idea to seperate late hatchers so they don't get trampled/bullied.
