Hi All! I had a mama hatch a baby duck this evening around 5:30pm. When I went into the coop this evening to close up, I noticed it peeping but very lethargic and weak. I pulled the duckling from mama and have a hairdryer on it now to get out nice and warm gave it some egg yolk as well. Anything else I can do to help this baby survive the night? How much egg yolk should I be giving it? It can barely keep its head up and isn’t opening his eyes very much. Doing lots of peeping

From what you’ve said your duckling is probably experiencing wry neck. Which is usually a defeciency in selenium and vitamin E. The best advice I can give is to see if anyplace near you has a liquid supplement for Vitamin E. (I personally recommend nutri drench as it targets multiple vitamins that may be the cause of the issue) If so I would get it asap as wry neck can become fatal if not treated correctly. As far as anything else goes just make sure it’s drinking water and the egg yolk itself won’t do much at least in my experience until you combine it with supplements like the vitamin E.

I have vitamin E. How much should I give a duckling so small?
