Newly Hatched Poult (With Pics (but not so good pics))

So cute! Hope your others hatch out!

Here's a dumb question for you though... When do turkeys start laying? I got my girl last year, end of May as a week old poult, got lucky and she turned out to be a she

She's my first turkey, and I just adore her! I can't wait to get a few more this spring!

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy, I checked out your BYC page and I love your Shelf Breeding pens.

Thanks and no question is a dumb question. We are all here to learn. My turkeys lay all year long. I don't know why, they just do.

I have been reading a lot of posts of turkey owners and thay are waiting for their turkeys to start laying. I always thought that turkeys layed year round like chickens.

It may all depend on where a person lives? I have no idea. I live in South Louisiana where the temps are much warmer, so i don't know if that has anything to do with them laying all year long.

You should definitely get more turkeys. You will love having more!

Thanks, It was pretty simple to make. I just bought a couple small shelves and put some deviders in the middle, screwed some small wire onto the front and then added 3 doors on each side.

I have two other shelves that are a tad bit bigger than the current one shown on my BYC page. I have tons of quail in the brooder and need to move them in a few weeks. They grow like little weeds!

Turkeys are awesome moms! I have been very impressed with mine. Once, one laid a nest down by our creek, but in a pile of brambles next to a tree. I couldn't get her away, so she ended up hatching a nest and some chicks and when they were just-born, she slowly walked/rested/walked with the tiny guys up to the barn (about 800 feet away) even though it was raining for a few days. I couldn't believe the teeny chicks could travel that far at a day or two old, but she was there for them the whole way! They did great ... I gave them to a guy as 2-month olds. Go henmom!
