one of my girls(all are 27weeks old) laid an egg for the time yesterday, i believe it may be fertile. none of my girls were sitting on the egg so I brought the egg to my friend who has a broody girl. Her girl sat on it almost instantly. Im so excited about it. My question is, now that we are laying, will they lay pretty consistently? Or will eggs be kinda separated as they are newly laying. I know eggs are not everyday, but curious as to what to expect. This is my first flock.
Nothing is more exciting than that first egg. Consistency comes with time. Some factors are breed, feed, and general health, sometimes temperatures (too hot and they may take a break), stress. You may get some strange eggs here and there, but as their bodies get in the groove, you should see a definite pattern. Mine took about a month for that. Sometimes they did not make it to the box before the urge hit. I had some drop soft eggs from the roost at night. They'll eventually figure it out. One of my hens laid an egg far from the boxes, in the run just the other day.
