Hi! I'm D. I've been lurking for a few months and decided it was time to join.
First and foremost I have to thank this site. I found it on google after searching what to do when an egg wouldn't hatch fully. Some of the threads here resulted in quite a few chicks saved (6 so far!) The information here has been a literal life saver.
Anyway, I'm fairly new to quail. I've been terrified of birds most of my life, but this year my husband decided we needed to be more self sufficient and wanted to get quail. We had our first hatch in December and I've been obsessed with them since. Currently we have 8 adults in their coop/run in the yard. There were 10 but we had to cull 2 of the roos for being aggressive (our ratio was way off). And we have 9 chicks that hatched on 2/27-2/28.
If possible we would get more but I think we're already skirting the issue with our HOA
Hopefully, one day, we'll get some land and be able to build the aviary of our dreams. Until then, our backyard will have to suffice. Ending this post with my favorite hen and the new chicklets:
