news paper vs straw

hello i have some chicks hatchin as we speak and i was woundering if i should put straw and news paper in the brooder baox

as long as they aren't directly on smooth newspaper. That is too slippery.

Yes, you have to be careful with newspaper. Plain newspaper is too slippery, and you could end up with chicks with slipped tendons. Straw on top give them enough traction, you'll just have to try and see!

Paper towel is great, too. It's cheap and has more traction than newspaper.

No to newspaper. Too slippery. Paper towels are so much easier and better for their legs. And you can still compost them if you want.

I use paper towells too. Its perfect .

Paper towels, THEN pine shavings. I hate straw! It does not absorb, it mats down, gets stinky,stays wet.
