A local newspaper contacted me via BYC somehow, so I am wondering how did she find my e-mail? Is there a way to look up specific people on here?

The reason I'm asking is this: if she does a story, I am prepared to tell the world that my little rooster has not found a good new home since October, and it is possible somebody out there reading the newspaper story would want to be considered as a good new home for Mr. Meatbird (who is not edible, he's just a good pet). Could anybody log onto BYC and look up our page, and maybe contact me through BYC? I don't really want to put my personal email address out there in the newspaper. And, I think it would be great fun for people to know about BYC!

I plan on mentioning this great BYC website if she does a story. I hope that is ok.

If you look over here

<~~~~~~~~~

you will see a link to send you an email or a pm. If someone emails you they will not see your email address but you will see their info. If you respond to the email they will have your email and any info you have in your response (via signature for instance).

You can sort members according to state, location, post count, how long they have been members.... go to the link in the menu bar "user list" and play. It's educational.

For instance, there are two pages of Utah members registered.

If I were a newspaper person I could contact them if they had the email option enabled. Go to "profile" to see and edit your options.

It sounds like either the reporter is a member or a member mentioned your story. I am not familiar with it but I hope you find a good home for your boy.

On your privacy page in your profile, you have these choices:

Display your e-mail address.
Hide your e-mail address but allow form e-mail.
Hide your e-mail address and disallow form e-mail.

If you pick the second one, someone who is a member of BYC will get a form that does not show your email address. If you answer that member, however, he/she will see your actual email address, I believe. You should pick the third one (I think your second option is what you have it set to now). A non-member cannot see your email or PM you.
