here are our new years baby chicks. They are my barnyard cross experimentals, I love the variety in genetics, so I am excited to see each individual chick and how it will turn out.

Bianca one of our EEx has hatched 10 chicks now.

They are so cute. I love watching their behaviors and routines. We have another two broodies that will begin hatching over the next 2 weeks.

just wanted to share.

oh they are super cute!!! I love their color too. I would love too see how they grow, if you'll post more pics?

Our broodies are blue Egg layers, so as far as I can tell maybe EEx's? They don't really have Ruffs, and 2 have almost like a silke poof? But I love their blue eggs and they are nice little barnyard crosses. The roos are gorgeous too so should be an interesting result. Really just playing mad scientist. lol.
The last broodie to hatch will be a Rhode Island red x Blue orpington - she's really pretty, has Blued neck and tail feathers, but unrelated to the eggs she is hatching.

Captain Jack - Black star Roo. (barred rock hen x RIR roo)

Rufus - Uknown x. roo.

Olive - Blue Egg layer

Latte - Blue Egg, Hazel (back, golden comet type) - Pink egg, Bianca - Pink Egg.

Well I plan on selling these guys when they are near to laying or crowing because I cant keep OEG but I will post more pictures up to that age.
I love your roosters so colourful, I want another rooster but neighbours are a problem, I love your hens as well is this your whole flock or do you have more, I just got duck.

That's cool. I look forward to seeing however they develop before you sell them. I noticed our oldest chicks 5 days old, have gotten gorgeous little wing feathers and today the oldest chicks have tail feathers, or rather little poofs of the begining of a tail! hehe. They are super speedy we pick them up to get them used to human contact, and a few of the dark brown ones get their speed on.
Looks like we have got one last chick hatching for bianca (we put the last eggs under our second broody, Olive, to hatch) and the last one with a red X was peeping and piped this evening. So Bianca has 11 chicks, all eggs 100% hatched. Olive's should start hatching next week.
I'm really hoping our Roos pass on some interesting variation to their chicks. Two chicks look like their wings have a barring pattern but being inexperienced, I can't be sure just yet.
We'll be selling our roos - and a few of the hens as well, but I want to let them mature a little first, so I'm sure we'll get to see their feathers.

We don't have ducks, but I'd love some, I've always thought they are cute. We have 10 shavers, and this growing flock with the 2 roos, but we have 40 acres and the roos live in the middle of it away from civilisation. haha.

How are your chickies doing today?

Yeah I'm really keen to see how colourful they get, I reckon the striped one will be a male but you never know, sounds like your having a great time and good 100% hatch rates. If I lived near you I would snatch you roosters up (so beautiful). I say you should get ducks they are so funny, full of personality. My chicks and chickens are going great, I just got my 6th and 7th broody today

so many broody's but I'm in the middle of moving chicken coops so cant have any more chicks hatching so have had to "break" them all. I wold love to have 4o acres, I would fill it with chickens.lol.

How is your flock???

Here are the chicks 4 days into their lives, not much change got a few feathers coming in though but they are hard to see in the photo's. Sadly lost the stripy chick the other day, so now only have two so here they are.

Grove--I also have a black sex link roo over a variety of hens, I love seeing how the barring comes through on some of them. My camera's down now, but I have a pullet from him over an ee/leghorn hen, she has barring pretty much only on her little beard and muffs! The rest of her is a soft almost laced pattern. That partial barring can be so pretty, especially on the hens where it's usually softer overall. The roos I've found it just makes them look messy lol.

The chicks still look super cute! I love how chicks follow mum's beak around. The highlight of my day today was the little peeps snatching a piece of grass they weren't going to eat and running around with it while the rest gave chase. chickens are crazy.
Yeah, I have the same feeling about the striped ones here, but i guess I'll wait and see. Sorry to hear you lost one, we lost one to, was white with black speckles, only one so far with those markings, so I really wanted to see it grow - sadly, it got out under a tiny hole and couldn't get back to mum, so died of exposure, poor wee thing. Now we lock them in at night to make mum's job easier. Hehe, if you lived near me i would let you borrow my roosters anytime!
I'll see if I can talk my husband into a few ducks, they are adorable.
7 broody hens! far out, crazy chickens - I thought 3 was enough! Haha. the problem with 40 acres is that you can fill it with chickens, were one so inclined. Believe me I am tempted!

The oldest were born 8 days ago today, the youngest was yesterday. So the oldest have these lovely little wing feathers and tail feathers growing out. the striped ones have some interesting patterns on their wings. The white ones I wonder if they will get the cream color like two of the hens. It'll be interesting in 4 mo's to see which ones have the blue gene for their eggs.
Still two broodies left to hatch - so I'll get a good idea of the average genetic traits.

Hi Donrae - that is so cool to know - I would love to see any pics you have got of the offspring. How exciting it can show up. I wondered if it could and how it may appear. That is an interesting point that the males make it look messy and the hens it can be faint on. Very cool.
