my coop is built inside a hoop house. the nest boxes open out into the exterior hoop house. i'm in Texas & it's really hot. i have several fans in the hoop house & coop, but it's still pretty extreme - especially when the hens decide they want to sit on eggs during the day (ugh!) soooo...
next try to manage heat is tying the nest boxes open. tacking screen over the top & draping it down over the boxes. over that, i tacked gunny sack "curtains", slit up about 12" (this gives them the sense of enclosure that just the screen won't offer) every 4-6 inches. i will close the wooden lid on the nest boxes at night for predator protection.
i can see the gunny sack "curtains" moving, so maybe it will give them enough cross-draft to keep them alive through this summer heat.
