(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I’ve got one year under my belt raising my girls!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have six hens and two ducklings and are expecting 3-4 more chicks in a month!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Barred Plymouth Rocks, Pekins, and expecting Columbian Wyandottes.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love how clever and friendly the girls are, having a reliable source of food, and watching my children learn how to care for a livestock type pet.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I am an avid gardener (grow all of our produce during late spring through fall), voracious reader, and an artist.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We are a family of four, two adults and two young children, with a Great Pyrenees, two cats, six hens, two ducks, and more birds to come. My husband and I both work in IT and we maximize our little .10 acre lot as a micro homestead.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I’ve been reading posts on the forums for the past year but finally decided to join fully as a member. There is so much great information and I’d love to connect with local folks especially to see any practices they have going on or advice/struggles/etc.
