Hi!
You have some lovely looking chickens!
We have 81 RIR (production reds) and I believe that's exactly what you have here- they look just like some of ours. Our chickens range in tones from light golden copper/ mottled auburn to deep mahogany with metallic green and black feathers. With the occasional random whitish feather- I think from leghorn ancestors and New Hampshire reds that were bred into this mix to help them produce more eggs than straight heritage RIR. Production Reds are not pure breeds persay, but I feel they are great egg layers, beautiful, affectionate, intelligent, and funny birds.
Most of our chicks were tannish or golden in hue to begin with. Our last batch had roos in the mix, and the roos were pale yellow with downy white chests/ wings. The roos were always leaner / more muscular than the hens. There are also some deep brownish RIR who (at this stage) actually look more like the heritage RIR in color and shape, surprisingly enough. Now that these new chicks are feathering in, some of the lightest/ palest chicks are some of the darkest, so you just never know until the chicks fully feather out at 4-5 months.
