Looking to add a young rooster to our 13 pullets. Ideally would be know as a LOUD
warning system for predators so I can send the dogs out to chase. The chicks and dogs are cool with one another. Would hope the rooster would be OK with people and dogs. Don't need him to fight, just be noisy when necessary.
Will drive anywhere in NH and VT, northern Massachusetts, southern Maine.
Thx

This is so tempting, but I think I'll hang onto my roo for now. He is about 15 months old now and I had to separate him from the hens as he is really big and his sheer size is hard on their feathers. He's never seen a regular dog or cat even so I'm not sure how he would react. I know they usually have a lot of roosters at Nevins Farm in Methuen. You might check that out.

I’m in the same boot. Doesn’t it stink to have a great roo and his size is to hard on the smaller hens. I just listed him forsale on BYC&Craigslist and if he doesn’t I’ll also be making him a pen.

I’m still keeping mine. He proved his worth yesterday during the supervised free ranging of the hens. He was inside his bachelor pad and I got distracted when Randy calls out to the girls to run inside the coop because the hawk was right overhead. He earned his feed.
