So I just got a Buff rooster from a friend who didn't like watching him do his job:lol: I have NH red hens.
And so what would the outcome be if one of my hens when broodie???

Very new chicken owner

Chicks would be barnyard mix, just a cross of breeds. This cross wouldn't give you sex-linked chicks, but they'd be nice layers and the cockerals should get big enough to eat if you're so inclined.

Ok... I am not into showing or any thing so I guess there would be no problem. I am just into happy chickens and there eggs.

They would be buff colored birds with less black in the tail and wings than the NH.

Yep. I crossed a BO roo on RIR hens before and their offspring was the color of NHs, so a BO X NH cross should be a bit lighter than a ND and a bit darker than a BO.

Here's a pic of "Goldilocks," my Rhode Island Red x Buff Orpington pullet. Sorry for the bad pic, it doesn't do her justice.

A New Hampshire x Buff Orpington would give very similar results. Notice that she has a black tail, and is darker than a Buff, but lighter than a RIR.

Here's my mystery lady, after much contemplation I think I've narrowed her down to being a New Hampshire Red X Buff Orpington mix. This is what the hens might look like for you!
