I have a 7 month old pekin boy who has a niacin deficiency. I did not know this until a couple months ago when he started having trouble walking. I bought brewers yeast to put on food and he did get better after that. A couple weeks ago it came back. Him having trouble walking and laying down a lot. Via suggestion of a friend on BYC i have been giving him 2ml of liquid b complex on a small handfull of mealworms every single day for the past week. Hes a bit better but still seems to have some lame leg issues. My question is since he had not been getting supplemental niacin until recently, does it take a bit of time for his legs to heal?

Possibly not a niacin deficiency but the fact that he is a Pekin and a meat duck. Meat birds are bred to gain weight quickly and ready for butcher earlier. Possibly his legs are just too weak for his size.

@Gerty0630 , According to one veterinary book I have, the Pekin duck has a much higher Niacin requirement than other ducks. It lists that a Pekins food should contain 70 ppm and that is probably 2-4 times higher than what chick feed has in it.
Which b complex did you get, how much does your duck weigh, and what does he eat?

What type of chicken feed are you feeding? Adult chicken food will have less niacin than chick food, so let us know and maybe we can figure out a good b complex dose for your duck.
Its from a local feed store so i am not sure of the brand. But its def adult chicken food and not chick food.

Is it pellets, crumbles, mash, or scratch (seeds)? Check the bag for a label and let us know what the protein and calcium percentages are.
