Niacin

The flush free is a modified version where they hang 6 of them together, in simple terms, which does not work in ducks. Check out various grocery stores until you find it. One will have it. In my town Walmart does not have, but Albertsons does. I know it is a drag to search for it. Amazon.com does have it. You can go to your pharmacy and ask for it. Poultry pack is perfect too, because it contains not just the niacin. I use a product from GQF here is the link to it .

My walmart doesn't have Flushed Niacin either. I was in the store looking for it, and I was like "What?! No flushed?! Come on people!", you can imagine the crazy looks I got!

But yeah, Amazon sells it, and Poult Pak works really well.

lol... get lots of bugs and insects and vegetables that are high in niacin and feed regularly as treats to your ducks.. Freeranging ducks with a great variety and supply are rarely deficient.

As for bugs, do dried mealworms have a good amount of niacin.

I'm SO glad I just saw this thread. I've been giving my ducklings the wrong niacin!

Good to know, I was wondering where I could find it....I am feeding my ducklings Flock Raiser, but one of my Runners is stil a little pigeon-toed so I am wondering if a little extra Niacin would help....

Ok, I went to GNC to get mine, because we happen to have one at our mall...It's straight-up Niacin. Each tablet is 250 mg. The waterer my 2 Indian Runners are using is a small mason-jar type fount, maybe 2 cups worth at a time and I have to change it at least twice a day. The girls are 2, going on 3 weeks old. I'm going to try the Niacin in the hopes that it will help strengthen their legs and help one of my girls with her pigeon toes...does anyone know how long I should provide Niacin? How much? 250 mg I think is going to be too much for a 2 cup waterer. This will help with the pigeon-toe thing right? She steps on her own feet quite a bit, when she's actually running behind me like in the yard and stuff she does okay, but I just felt like it would be a good thing to try.

Oh AND BTW....sorry for all the questions...can anyone tell me how Niacin works on ducks? I know for humans it is something about improving the lipid levels in our blood...and do ducks experience the same heat "flushes" that humans do when they ingest it? I went ahead tonight and ground up a tablet and sprinkled maybe a third or a fourth of it in their water....but again if anyone can give me a better idea how much I'd appreciate it.

I'm glad I saw this thread too! I have 3 rouens that are 2.5 weeks old. 2 are really growing but my crested is not growing at the same rate. I'm worried. I know that I need to get them out of the brooder and into the pen but my 6 week old hens don't like that idea. The largest duckling, Munchie, and the dominant hen, Buffy, have what we call puffing contests when we let them forage on neutral ground. lol. Munchie stands her ground while Nibbles and Curlie hide behind her. lol. I wonder if the Niacin will help Curlie grow some. She is so much smaller than the other girls. I worry for her. She's so shy and stand offish. Munchie and Nibbles have imprinted on my daughter, but Curlie just tags along. I can't tell if the imprint is really there like the others even though equal amounts of time are spent with all 3. Maybe a little boost of that will help. Thanks for this thread!
