Hi my name is Mandy! I am a foster and adoptive parent and we recently started raising chickens this summer! Below is my first hatch who came today, sadly the other ones didn’t make it. We have goats and quails too! We began raising chicken to start becoming more self sufficient. Eventually we want to produce as much of our own food as possible. Plus the kids enjoy it! We have our first incubator filled with eggs, should hatch 2 week from today! We have three Easter Eggers several Rhode Island reds and some black Astralorps! Total of 14 hen and one rooster!

I have been following BYC and found most of the answers I had questions about here! I finally decided to make my own account just to learn more about this great world of chickens!

Thank you so much! I’m so glad one made it and even more excited about the next hatch! Hopefully we will have some buddies for him/her! If you had to guess, what mix breed do you think this little guy is? Our rooster is a Rhode Island Red, our girls are black Astralorp, Easter Eggers and Rhode Island?
