In the Brooder
Hello! I am a new member. I admit, I've been a lurker for a while and finally decided to join because most of the questions I have about my chickens are answered right here! I have lived in town my whole life until 5 years ago when I married a farmer and moved out to the farm. Of course I wanted chickens right away but it took me five years to convince him to let me! Finally, last Christmas he gave me a chicken coop for 4 chickens. I immediately got online and searched out which chicken breeds are the best egg layers, friendliest, and hardiest to Nebraska climate. Finally it was CHICK DAYS at our local Orcheln's and I picked out a Rhode Island Red, Black Sex Link (Black Star), Barred Plymouth Rock, and Ameraucana. They were all supposed to be pullets, but one day, the Barred Plymouth Rock, which we had named Guineviere, began crowing! So, we changed his name to Zander. He is a beautiful rooster but I was disappointed to lose a good egg layer! The other three, Sunshine, Heedley, and Airborne started laying about a month ago and we have had all kinds of adventures with them. It's been so fun! I look forward to sharing my stories with you and hearing about your adventures too!
