Nice to Meet You All!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!! :frow

I am so sorry you have so many roosters! It's hard to rehome them after falling head over heals with them. :hugs Sounds like you got a straight run of chickens? Means males and females are all mixed in. In the future you will definitely want to purchase chicks from a feed store that specifiy pullets only or order from a hatchery and request pullets only. They are pretty good at sexing chickens at hatcheries and you usually get what you order. Good luck, I definitely feel for you!

We purchased 6 chocolate and 6 Lavender Orpingtons from a local hatchery. We specifically asked for pullets. So far 4 of the chocolates are definitely Roos. I’m also thinking that I have 2 Lavender Roos as well. I’m going to ask for help in figuring out the Lavenders on BYC. I’m thinking of contacting the hatchery I bought them from and suggest that they hone up in their sexing skills lol. I’m having a hard time rehousing them and it’s looking more like the only option is going to be chicken soup

Yes definitely contact that hatchery, terrible sexing skills! If all else fails with rehoming you might contact your local 4H Club or even County Extension. 4-H ers always have the ins on other poultry keepers or can steer you in the right direction. Maybe even local feed stores too might be able to help you rehome with their contacts. Be careful with strangers, you don't want your boys going to rooster fighting rings and such. Good luck!

I contacted the hatchery they will take back all the Roos, all 8, yes 8, Yeah! The owner stated that I must have got a mixed run. I know I specifically asked for all pullets. Communication meltdown, but all is well. I’m going to be getting 3 barred rocks as replacements. Thanks for your support, this all new to me.
