Good morning: I just found this site in the process of researching information on bird mites. I have one hen. Her name is Granny. She lived in my aunt's house for several years after her sister chicks pecked the top of her head until it was raw and her feathers wouldn't grow back. The two of them were great pals, and Granny gave my aunt a lot of joy. I inherited Granny when my aunt passed away. She has done very well, until a couple of weeks ago when I discovered the mites. I have begun treatment, but she is really not doing well today, so I'm saying prayers for her.
I live by myself and plan to retire in two years to a farmette that I have in the Eau Claire, Wisconsin area. I have two strictly indoor cats who are just a hoot and keep me company. I am a receptionist in a medical clinic and a church organist. My greatest dream is to have a couple of cows as soon as I retire. My son has a fairly decent sized flock of Rhode Island Reds, from which I breakfast on delicious fresh eggs, and my grandson has his own flock of Easter Egg (?) layers who are just starting to get going with laying.
Happy to have you all to chat with and to learn from. Thoughts and prayers for Granny are appreciated. Happy Holidays to you all.
