Hello fellow chicken enthusiasts!
My name is Shelly Leidig, I live in Georgia. I am completely in love with my chickens! I have had my current flock for a year - Started with six that I obtained from TSC. I lost two of them to a Chihuahua. I have 2 RIR hens, one Leg Horn rooster, and another hen that for the life of me, I can't remember her breed. I am pleased to announce that today, I obtained four new silkies! I am over the moon!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? One year ago. Have never regretted it!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 8 Because chicken math!

(3) What breeds do you have? I currently have 8 chickens! 2 RIR hens, 1 Leg horn roo, another that I can not remember the breed - she's white, and my 4 baby silkies

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Google :)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I have a Golden Retriever, and Great Pyrenees. I also love to crochet, but haven't in a while

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I have been married for (almost) 22 years. We have one daughter (20), that is currently attending Kennesaw State University; and we have a son, (18) who is currently contemplating going into the Coast Guard (Be still my heart!). I'm an RN, and work in long term care.

If you have not found it yet, BYC has an active Silkie Thread.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you include your general location on your profile, this will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
