Growing up on a small farm, I helped my Mom care for her chickens until I was 12. I finally got my own Delaware chicks on June 2, 2020; 8 pullets and 8 cockerels from Cackle Hatchery. I raise them in portable shelters I built.
My main motivation for getting chickens was the same as for my Mom, namely eggs and meat. I will need to slaughter 6 of the cockerels in a couple weeks and hope to learn something I don't know about that in the mean time. I also enjoy growing a garden enjoy eating fresh and canned vegetables.
I have been reading articles on BYC for quite a while and finally decided to join.
