Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats Blog - Triplets born - New baby pics

I do recommend LaManchas for bigger goats. They are very sweet and personable..My mom raised some with our Nubians growing up and they were always sweeter and my favs..I now have a mini mancha and she melts my heart.

I agree Cindy does have some very nice healthy goats. I was very impressed with her herd. The other breeder I am looking at also has some very nice healthy goats with good blood lines too. If I am not mistaken, I think she has had goats since the 70’s. She is very knowledgeable and trustworthy. She is in the Picayune MS area not too far from your old stomping grounds of Covington, LA.

You dog you!

*S is a star sire - in other words comes from proven milking lines where both sire and dam have approved DHIR or one day milk tests and have earned milking stars.

2*D means the doe has two generations consecutively that have earned their milking stars

VG is a 'very good' HES score.

In other words...you got GOODIES there. Again, you DOG. LOL

Wow! What a GREAT thread. It kept me busy reading for over an hour, e.g., I didn't do anything that Anne wanted done this morning. Every reply and picture was a treat to read and see. Thanks!

I will not get goats! I will not get goats! I will not get goats! I will not get goats! I will not get goats! I will not get goats! I will not get goats! I will not get goats!

Okay, maybe I'll get goats if Anne will milk them.

Oh cool. And I just thought they were unique names.

Confetti has them on both sides of her pedigree record and Bella has them on the Sire/Dam right hand side of record and Goldy has them on the second sire on the right hand side.

I guess I really need to learn what I've gotten myself into and paid for. But I'm just too darn busy with a certain chicken site to get on a goat site and learn more.

Edited to add: Now that I'm looking at her pedigree records, does MCH in front of the names mean anything?

Thanks for all help.

Thanks Kate - Confetti has MCH in front of the names on the right hand side of her Pedigree Record and those other letters/numbers/symbols after the names. But that record is dated May 2006 - how do you keep up to date with who has won what after the Pedigree record is issued?

I know I should probably know what all that means and should have asked when I bought them but to tell you the truth, I've never even looked at their paperwork till now.

I bought them the same way I buy art, antiques, cars, and everything else - by how it looks and how much I like it. I went through the breeders herd and picked out the ones I thought were "cute" - that was my criteria. That and I wanted does that weren't related so I could breed offspring. The breeder helped me with picking them out. We didn't really even discuss pedigrees because I didn't care and wouldn't have know what it all meant anyway.

Guess I have lots to learn. I've never been a part of any type of "show" ring or breeder activities - it all seems like too much work for me.

like my Marans I have no idea about breeding them and I am not just wanted dark eggs ended up paying not much $ for chicks and now have three usually very expensive birds for the same I would pay for any layer

Confetti gave birth during night or early a.m. to triplets. One is dead, looks like it was stillborn and still covered in slime One is running around looking pretty healty and mama is starting to wash it but hasn't let it nurse. Other one is very frail looking and is in my lap right now. It is shivering. Mama has not cleaned it off and it has dried goo all over it and she keeps head butting it when it gets near her. I know I need to run to feed store and buy colostrum (sp?) but I don't think they open for another half hour. Other than keeping this little one warm, what else can I do? It seems very frail and skinny not like the other one at all.
