Walk out basement I hope...We have our first flock of 12. 6 whyndottes and 6 buff orpingtons. Sweethearts for sure. They are approximately 3 weeks old tomorrow (didn’t have an exact hatch date when we purchased them, but full of down and now featgering out on wings), so I’m guessing 3 weeks. We are brooding them in our back room. They seem very happy with country music on lol. My husband and I with our two young boys decided we needed to live in a way where we can provide for our family with our own means. So here we are raising our 1st flock as egg layers. We have been reading EVERYTHING and talking to our farmer friends who can offer sound advice. Which is great. We are also turning our dirt basement into their coop mansion lol. It was literally made to be a coop. All sand floor already and hubby made nesting boxes. Thank goodness I married a carpenter lol. We are doing all the construction parts ourselves. We live here in the live free or die state. NH. And are very happy about possibly living completely off grid in a few years. For now we will raise our food and teach our children the same. Thank you for having us. We also have a grown freeloader nh red that visits. I may try and see if she will join our flock when its time. Ill post some videos and photos. Shes a sweetheart too.
