My name is nina... I live just outside of Houston Tx in a small town... my town has no deed restricts so I can do "whatever" in my neighborhood, raise a hen house or get a couple goats. I've had hens for 7 yrs now, they fascincate me... colorful, smart, goofy, gutsy little survivors they are.... I have about 17 hens...all pure breeds. aracauna, dominecker, leghorn, cochins, australop, wyaandotte. My rooster is a white leghorn.. he's a big one

MY group roosts in an old rubbermaid shed with chciken wire around it.... the chickens have run of the back yard on most days. they keep the bugs down, fertilize

and lay wonderful presents! Its great to come home from work ever night and gather the eggs. the hens lay in a wooden crate (full of hay) that I have in the coop. Chickens have been a huge asset to my life. Ive had many come and go, some get names, some don't....some I bond with some not so much... but they are all beautiful! I think my dog thinks she is a big chicken at this point. she's husky and half coyote, can you imagine? she lays down in the yard with the hens like the lion lays with the lambs. she jsut doesn't care (is older) how funny is that!
Anyway my project this year is buying an incubator (12 eggs, science class type) and "growing my own" chicks........ it will be VEY interesting to see what come up since my rooster is white and the hens are a motley crew!
I can't imagine life (or a backyard) w/o chickens !!!!
Greetings to all!!!
NINA
