Hello! I'm new to this site so I don't really know how to tag this or where to post it, sorry if I did it wrong. I just got on here because there was a big thunderstorm last night, and when I went to put my birds in, only four chickens were there. I don't know if it's due to the storm or anything else, and I'm really crossing my fingers that they come back, because we lost nine of our babies :(. I really have no idea what would cause them all to disappear like that. There's no signs in or around the coop. The only maybe related thing I can think of is we had a guinea die a couple of days before this - she was fine when we closed her up at night, in the morning she was just dead. No signs of injuries, no blood, looked like she'd just fallen off her perch. This thunderstorm is meant to go all week so should I keep my chickens in? Is it due to the thunderstorm or something else? Do you think they'll come back? Sorry for asking so many questions but I'm really worried and hope my babies are okay, we've had pretty rotten bird luck this week. :(

Was it raining heavily when you went to put the birds away? I've noticed chickens really don't like the rain, and sometimes I have to go hunting for one that decided to wait the storm out somewhere other than their coop

They're small enough to get taken by a predator but the main thing they get taken by is hawks, which I wouldn't think are out in the storm. It was raining pretty hard but we looked for them around the coop and in the woods nearby and there were absolutely no signs of them. I think maybe they got scared off by the storm, it was pretty big and I can't see nine of them being taken by a predator all at once. Maybe a fox or a raccoon though. I'm hoping they're just holed up somewhere until the weather improves and then they'll come back :hmm

Hoping your babies come back ❤️
Like you said, maybe they got scared and ran for cover and will be back soon ❤️

Were you out at daylight this am looking for them? Chicks will hop up on something to roost, or huddle together. Was there any place they could get shelter new where they were missing? I would make a little noise and have some food or scratch available. I hope they show up.
