yeah I bought one of my crabs from petsmart, he is the shyest thing ever. The ones from petco are way more friendly. It's ok to buy a crab with a painted shell just make sure there are non painted shells available, then take the painted one out and throw it away after the crab changes. I did that with my crab, now she is living a happy life! She turns 11 in December. She is getting big

I don't use a heat lamp. Just a heat pad under the tank.
