nipple waterer for chickens?

Considering this $40+ it should work great out of the box!

"Should", yes. But that doesn't always mean it does. :D

Try wedging a mealworm or sunflower seed into each nipple so that it's wet when they take the treat. That's a good way to teach them that water is there.

Okay, I'm trying this again and now the chicks are 6+ weeks old and spending half their time out of the coop and half their time wandering in their run. The weather is 45 degrees (dry run and dry coop) but the air is damp and moist. How long should I let the chicks re-attempt the heated nipple waterer, before I get worried about them getting de-hydrated?

Should I give them water from a bowl at night just prior to bed time, and then try again the next morning with no bowls of water? They definitely understand there is water in the heated nipple waterer, but they just don't get the pin pushed to get any water.

Leave the nipples out all the time.
I have put down a small gravity waterer for about 30 minutes before roost time when training.
