Nipple Waterer Question

How do you keep nipple waterers from freezing in the winter?

I had a stock tank heater that worked great until it got very cold and then everything froze and after banging my head against the wall I bought an submersible aquarium heater and it has worked much better. The stock tank heater only heats the water to 40 degrees just not warm enough the aquarium heater gets the water to almost 80 degrees as long as the heater is touching the nipples is has worked since the change.

I use a bird bath heater.
