Nipple Waterer

I put one of those lids on my feeder and it leaked water every time it rained. You don't actually want the bucket tight closed with the waterer anyway because then there will be a vaccum inside the bucket. I put small holes under the rim of my waterer to keep it from forming even with the lid on.

We haven't had leaking with our homemade vertical nipple buckets. The commercial ones shouldn't leak, can you try tightening the nipples? We just today put a single nipple in an inverted plastic drink bottle and the lid is kind of thin and leaked around the nipple. We found a washer that fit the fine thread of the nipple and tightened it down. It's hanging over a little saucer to test for leaks, and in an hour, there isn't a drop.
Our chicks figured out the nipples right away, and the hens learned by watching them.

I screw the lid down then back it off about a 1/4 turn, works great, for the waterer. I have one on my 5 gallon feeder also, but it is in my coop.
