Nipple waterers

Forgot to post finished project. Can't tell if they are using it or not.

I need to locate where to purchase some of the better type water nipples, just going blind looking for them and getting no where. I think they are the red ones.

I think I found this recommendation here on BYC. We ordered the red heavy-duty ones from them and they seem to be high quality. I have not used other nipples so can't compare. I followed their instructions (using 11/32" bit and teflon tape) and have no dripping problems. We use 1 nipple for every 6-7 birds.

I'm not patient enough, I guess, for the nipple waterers. We put it up yesterday and back down this morning. The nipples froze. I couldn't stand to see the pullets pecking around the tray under it for water. We went and bought a regular water container but we'll
try again after the freezing is done.

I believe most of the people in the north use pipe insulation and sometimes a heated water source. I don't know if the nipples themselves still freeze but I know it helps prevent the pipes and holding tank from freezing.

I found this at the hardware store, plumbing section. It says it works on plastic and metal and it plugs in to regular extension cord or outlet.

I haven't had to use it yet.
