Nite Guard light

I would do it only after spending my money first on a good fence-charger. I have a good one and a good installation. Am thinking of doing my own with slow blinking LED's since I have 120 vac already at the gate to power the charger. Would not be too hard to mount a reducing transformer and run doorbell wire to 4 corners of pen and put a pair of LED lights there at ht of about 3 ft. Far cheaper than what the asking price of the solar units is.

We have used these units for almost 2 years now. Like gryeyes we bought 3 and used our home as the fourth side. We have had NO predator problems. We had problems with fox, skunk and raccoon before we bought these. They were $19.99 each. I feel they have paid for them selves and then some. My peace of mind is priceless! I recommend them

I just don't get the whole red light thing. I mean predator hunters use a red lens when hunting at night because it does't spook 'em as bad. Coons, pos, fox, coyote can't see in color anyway so the red is supposed to make then not see the light as well. Just doesn't make sense that a red light would scare them away.

I would take the same amount of money OR LESS! Install me an electric fence charger. Shucks the last time I read up on the things they would reccommend 5 or 6 of the things "for complete coverage".

A cheap charger, hot wire and insulators can be all purchesed for way less than $75.

Sorry I just don't trust the BOOGIE MAN EYE to work all the time. Used continuosly some old smart coon is going to get used to it, ignore it and bang he is in your coop.

Thank you for enhancing my peace of mind. We've only been using them 3 or 4 months but the nite guard lites are the only protection our young roosters have, and it seems to be working. We are afraid we may have lost our tiny Dutch bantam pullet that was not protected except by her own wit: she insisted on roosting in the top of a cedar tree and now we haven't seen her for a couple days (or she could have found a hiddy hole and gone broody). So far the chicken project has cost a lot more than we anticipated, but the best spent money we feel was for the nite guard lites.

1/2/10: We haven't lost any chickens to predators since we started using the Nite Guards and we have over 30, even the tiny Dutch girl showed up today so maybe she has gone broody (hope not, as a Japanese bantam just hatched out 5 and are in the bathroom as it is zero degrees out)
