Has any one used this product called Nite-Guard to guard their flocks, and if so, how well do you think it works? I don't have any predator problems yet but I am wondering if this device is a sound investment.
I have had this product the entire time I have had chickens and have had no problems. I highly recommend it! If you have any questions I will be glad to answer them here or PM me. Hope this helps!
I've used night guard lights for about a year with zero predator problems. The lights are solar powered so if they are in an area that doesn't get direct sun, they quit working after a few days of no recharge. I've heard that predators get used to the lights and ignore them but based on my experience, I'm glad I got them.
We've had one for the last year with no problems, we are rural with coons, possum, bobcats, dogs and foxes and before we got the nightguard we lost a lot of hens. Since installing it zero losses. Well worth the money, several work better than one but you can cover a coop with two on diagonal corners.
I have to say that every single first-hand account have read has been positive. It seems like every time this comes up, the people that have actually used them have had no problems.
You will find people that say, " buy christmas lights, they are the same thing", they are not. Nite Guard is a L.E.D., not an incandescent bulb. It flashes more like a predators eyes. We have had trouble with coons and coyotes, major trouble. We have trapped, shot and defended against these predators, and nothing protected our chickens until we purchased Nite Guard. If you follow the manufacturers recomendations, for example, you have to place one unit on all four sides of your chickens, and at the same height as the eyes of the predators you are dealing with, you will not have any more problems. Granted, they are somewhat expensive, but well worth it. Also, the customer service with the company is exceptional. Just be sure that you place the units so that they have plenty of sunshine during the day and they will function without issues.
