I have 4 hens. a Silkie a Buff orpington an Ameracauna & a Black Australorp. I picked these particular girls for their temperament and their color of eggs. I got them April 14 as chicks and they are all laying now. My ameracauna is not laying blue eggs. I really want blue eggs, does anyone have any suggestions, should I trade her for a blue egg layer, should I just buy another blue egg layer? what can I do? Im new to the whole chicken thing but I love my girls so i want to do this right. I posted a pic of her and all the eggs. No Blue.

You had some good suggestions on this thread. Mine is the same, go on your state thread and chat with you neighbors. As long as you have room I'd add one that you know is laying blue eggs. As you have seen there can be some uncertainty in what color of egg a hen will lay until you see an egg.

a true Amerecauna(sp) is one of the breeds that is a late starter to laying, they usually start laying about 9-12 months old

sorry don't have coffee in hand just yet.
The Ameraucana is an American breed of domestic chicken. It was developed in the United States in the 1970s, and derives from Araucana chickens brought from Chile. It was bred to retain the blue-egg gene but eliminate the lethal alleles of the parent breed. There are both large fowl and bantam standard versions. Wikipedia
Egg production (annual): 250
Temperament: Broody
Recognized variety: Blue, Brown Red, Buff, Silver, Blue Wheaten, Wheaten, Black, White
One main difference between Ameraucana, Aracana and Easter Egger chickens is that Easter Eggers are hybrids while the other two are pure breeds. This means that Easter Eggers do not always have the same qualities since they can be mixes of different breeds.
This information was from a quick search on google as brain is not functioning yet lol

As Ridgerunner pointed out you have the other thread about same issue, you don't have an Ameraucana you have a mixed breed sold as one, Easter Eggers can lay different color based on the breeds crossed to get the EE but it's not going to change once they've started laying.
keep posting same threads isn't going to change the fact, the guy may have been duped when he got his starting flock, the best thing to do is go here and find a breeder of True Amaraucanas and get one from them. There are several on here that do have Ameraucanas too so you could check with the for sale forum.

Where did you buy your ameracauna?
At a shop called Belmont Feed & Seed in chicago. The funny thing is my girlfriend down the street bought the same exact three chickens there as chicks and her Ameracauna lays blue eggs. they could be twins .. The only difference is I added a silkie.

How many pullets do you have, and how many eggs are you getting per day?
You could put a few drops of food coloring in the girl's vent, that would let you know which egg she is laying, if she is even laying.
It took my Ameraucanas nearly a year to start laying (11 months). If she hadn't started laying yet, she may lay blue when she starts.

My Lilly Bell (the Ameracauna) did start last but only about a week and a half after the third one started laying. the first three started within a week of each other my buff Orpington was first my silky was second my black Austorlorp was third then the ameracauna with her brown eggs. She was last but not late, i got them all on April 14 at 2 days old.

So do you think it will be safe for her? I have been told i have to add two or they might be diseased. It might be too late before it gets cold. i’m so nervous to create any danger for any of them. I want blue eggs so i want to do it right.

She is not an Ameraucana she is an Easter Egger which may have some of the characteristics of the breed but is not bred true. They can lay just about any combination of colors due to what was crossed.

True Ameraucana do lay blue eggs , Easter Eggers sometimes will but many don't, they will lay same egg color though all their life

i’m getting 4 eggs a day, i have 4 girls. She lays last everyday like 5pm as the other girls are early. Silkie first then black then buff. Silkie & black argue over laying spot.
