No Brooders, No Problem

I can't have roosters where I live so I don't get any fertile eggs. I've had a hen go broody before and it was so tempting to buy some fertile eggs for her to hatch. I'm suffering from "broody envy" over here.

Then I've got a broody hen for you...

and more fertilized eggs than you can possibly need, when she's done doing her motherly duties, I'll be giving those little eggs away.

Yes...broody doesn't leave that nest in the last four days or so. The roo dance to another roo is a challenge and a dominant behavior. If they are penned together and do not have access to females they can and will "mate" the lesser roo out of sheer sexual frustration. Nothing connects, you understand, but it's just the action that seems to matter.

Lock up that bra, woman!

I have seen my silkies do this often. Even with girls in there.


But again.. I've seen a silkie rooster mate a fallen towel.

Day #8 MY egg "fluffy" is growing amazingly well. Swimming today! Eye and body larger. It won't cooperate for photo or video yet. Maybe later. 13 days to go...
My daughter is due to give birth any day now!!!! We are all excited

The eggs are under the mom now, they have been for a couple days, she's doing great. The tell all will be whether she completes the process with her egg since she decided to go broody ten days later, now she has all three eggs.

If not we already have a plan for her egg

Thats great...upload some pics when they hatch...i too had my broody hen on 15 eggs..its day 10
