No Brooders, No Problem

Took Buttcheek and Baby Nova to the vet and got her vaccinated

Buttcheek took Baby Nova out for her first meal this morning and despite having feed right there, Buttcheek had Nova eat her breakfast which was Greek yogurt with blueberry applesauce (not sure how cool that is) but she loved it.

Ah! Ok yes there's a big difference upon inspection  Great to know!

I know that sitting hens will get off the egg 2x a day so is it necessary to have a second person for showers etc or have others just put the egg in a safe insulated area for short periods? I've read a few past threads with varying results recently so it's hard to remember what worked & what didn't.

Hopefully we can get an update & breakdown from Chickie Momma on what she did since it seems she's been successful in boobie incubating :)

I own a small house cleaning business so for me it was a necessity to have a second person. As far as I can say it should be fine to leave the egg somewhere warm during showers. It is all experimental..I don't think anyone has it down to a science- what works for one may not work for everyone.

I am considering trying again when Buttcheek starts to lay again. I wouldn't change much about how I did it, when I gave Egg A to my broody it was still viable. I think next time I would hold it through lockdown because the temperature change between me and her may have been what did it. Egg A did pip internally so as far as I know it can be done!

Ha! Even if some one had it down to a science mother nature still has ways of changing it up! We have a hen sitting on eggs right now that are on day 28, they developed slower due to the freezing temps we had for awhile. Today there's finally some shadowing in the air cells & its looking like they'll internally pip soon. Out of the clutch of 11 eggs only 3 have made it this far! The anticipation is killing me!

Your little Nova & buttcheek are so cute!

I did do the boob thing solo. For showers, I bundled the lil thing up in a sweat sock several layers of a new clean one in front of a heater sitting up on a towel so the heat was blowing directly over the top. My house is freezing cold when the temps dip so I bundle in several layers and found that the boobie temp didnt dip at al lol. The bathroom was always toasty and humid when "fluffy" came out to change socks and lay in the towel with the heat blowing on it.

Well guys, the booby egg is on Day #22 now. Officially at 2 p.m. this morning the wings are noticable on the sides of the egg and the beak also on one side. AND on the pointy end of the egg there is light! Which I hope means the abdomen is closing up and the yolk sac is shrinking. I am getting to be quite the nervous nellyaround here. Daisy is liking to stay off her nest for very long times and doesnt tuck her egg in very good. Helen on the other hand isnt off her tiny clutch very long at all! But thos lil eggies are developing just wonderful even Daisy's. I have been at the library doing school work this morning but I am abt to leave and check all the animals now and eat some lunch. Then I will head back to finish up work and pick up hubby.
