New member from central Texas. We're in planning and design stage for coop and run. The stakes are in the ground and a drawing of the front elevation of the coop has been done. It will probably be an 8 x 10 building with a large run. I'm adverse to keeping chickens too confined and plan to let them range when I'm at home for the entire day. We are in a rural area and will have to be vigilant about predators. Years ago I had chickens but not a good set up. This time we will hopefully get it right. I love all birds and especially chickens. I had Silkies (the sweetest breed) and a few other breeds previously, but I'm certainly impressed with the Maran dark brown eggs. We're building the coop fairly close to our house and back porch. I plan to sit on the back porch listening to chicken sounds - music to my ears!
