Hello everyone! I've been stalking this site for a little while and thought it was time to actually join, haha.

I actually have a horse farm that my husband and I bought recently, but want to start making the switch to homesteading. Hopefully we'll be building a chicken coop before too long!!

Welcome!! I stalked for almost a year before finally getting chicks and joining. Figured since every time I googled something chicken related I always got my best answers here...

I wish I had the land for horses, but alas, only 2.5 ac for now and I swear at least 3/4 of an acre is all leach field.

Greetings and welcome from College Station, Texas. One of the things I love about backyard chickens is that they are easier to care for than most other pets. We've been able to go out of town for a week or two at a time, with a friend checking on chickens and eggs once or twice a day, and they've been just fine. Ours are free-range foragers.
