Today is the 18th day for my 14 Coturnix Quail eggs and so far nothing. Should I at least see some eggs wiggling? The temp has remained constant but the humidity has been in the 35% range at times. I have not candled them as I do not have one. I tried using a small flashlight and it does not allow me to see into the shell. I took the turner out on the 14th days as I have read to do so.

Is there still hope?

Keep waiting!

with the flashlight you need to have a tube or a box with a hole in it to focus the light onto the egg. With quail eggs being so small, your best bet is to take a small shoebox and cut an egg shaped hole into it, just a wee bit smaller than the size of the egg. Place the egg on the hole, place the flashlight on the other side.

If you still can't see anything but the air sac, then there's babies in there. I had some stragglers at day 19, so it's not hopeless yet!

Or if you're REALLY nosy, break one open and see what's up. Just bear in mind it might mean the loss of a chick that might have hatched. Save that for day 20 if you're worried about the possible results.

Thanks for the replys,
This is my first hatching and I am anticipating the worst. I will wait a few days before opening one. I have 29 eggs in another incubator and will try the homemade candler.

I had one chick when I got home that hatched. Still 13 that have not.

I was hoping for at least 50% hatch my first batch. Still time I guess

I won't know until I get home from work this evening.

Oh, I wish you the best of luck! I read that those little buggers are like roaches..so you know maybe they all hatched!
