This fluffy gal was sold to me as a baby, as a Giant Cochin, unsexed. She is now 26 weeks old. I’m assuming it’s female, she isn’t laying or squatting, but what I really want to know is the breed. I’ve never had a chicken with zero comb or wattles at 26 weeks! Thoughts?

She is pretty and definitely sporting female saddle feathers. :love

The dark beak says she is a cross to me and not pure (giant) Cochin... confirmed by her beard which is inhibiting her wattle size.

How many toes is she sporting and the color skin under her feet?

Oh ya, feather pattern is also not one I recognize as conforming to any standard of perfection, also indicating cross. :pop

Id say pullet since you also arent hearing crowing. No evidence of a saddle feathering for the cockerel either. I have had pullets take awhile to start laying. I think Cochin X with something with a beard. I see a slight muff and colored legs i think? Maybe Easter egger in there somewhere?

I’ll have to check toes and legs tonite when she’s on the roost. She’s terrified of me and won’t get near enough to catch in the daytime.

All my LF black cochin have dark beaks. Cochin take longer to mature, my understanding was they will start laying at 8 months. I would say with confidence it is a pullet though.
